Department of Communications Media alumnus Scott Pitts '92 was one of six recipients of the College of Education and Communications' Impact Awards for 2020. Pitts spent time with students on Friday, talking about his career as an Emmy-award winning producer of multimedia graphics. Pitts offered advice to students for working in media and their job and internship searches, advising, "You are looking for a career, not just a job. Make sure the mission and values of the companies you look at match your values."

Working with Commonwealth Media Services in Harrisburg, Scott has produced work for the Governor's Awards for the Arts and the #Meet the Kids campaign for the PA Adoption Network. He is an active volunteer with the Boys and Girls Club of Harrisburg, where he mentors children to be not just consumers of media, but creators of media.

Pitts is the owner of Spit digital creative, a multimedia and web development company that uses the latest in digital technology, animation, and software to support clients in all phases of branding and marketing.

Pitts was nominated for the award by the chair of the Communications Media Department, B. Gail Wilson, who regards Pitts as an inspiration to students. "Scott is a motivator. When he talks to students with such enthusiasm for IUP and our department, they walk away with a renewed energy. When he is in front of an audience, he never fails to have everyone's full attention."

The COEC Impact Awards are presented annually to alumni of the College who have made an impact on their profession, their community, and the university.
