Join the IUP Career and Professional Development Center on Tuesday, April 5, at 6:00 p.m. in the Great Room in Elkin Hall for the final installment of this spring’s Career Ready Seminar Series, Fringe Skills: What They Are and Why You Need Them.

What exactly are fringe skills and why would you need them? When we say fringe skills, we are talking about things such as adaptability, emotional intelligence, dealing with ambiguity, and being able to prioritize. These are all key skills that employers look for when making hiring decisions and if you can demonstrate them, that can set you apart during the interview/hiring process.  Join the CPDC for this informative and interactive discussion on what exactly these skills are, how you can demonstrate them, and much more!

The Career and Professional Development Center’s Career Ready Seminar Series aims to provide targeted programming to help IUP students gain and understand the necessary skills and competencies to be successful in life after graduation. Topics vary each semester and, in many cases, involve employer sponsors.

Kelsey Thompson, Associate Director of the IUP Career and Professional Development Center, who oversees this program series, stated, “I was really excited to have another fantastic semester of topics and presenters.  Our Career Ready Seminar Series is something that has continued to grow over the years, and we look forward to coming up with topics that we know will benefit our students and provide them with knowledge to help them stand out in the workplace.  This workshop is no exception, since we know fringe skills are some of the top skills employers look for when interviewing and hiring potential candidates.  I’m looking forward to wrapping up the spring with this topic and discussion.”
