The American Language Institute (ALI) is IUP’s intensive English program. The ALI offers full-time, noncredit programs for international students and visitors.

Anyone who wants to learn English in a supportive, friendly environment with others from around the world will feel at home at the ALI.
Only individuals with at least a high school diploma or an equivalent degree are considered for enrollment. Admission to the ALI does not constitute admission to IUP. Students who are also seeking provisional IUP admission can apply to the ALI Provisional

All prospective students must complete an online application and submit the required documentation, including high school transcripts, passport, and financial affidavit.

The ALI offers several different programs designed to meet students’ educational needs. The cost of the American Language Institute includes
ALI tuition and mandatory IUP fees. Detailed cost information is available at the
Office of the Bursar. Tuition and fees are subject to annual change. Students should also budget for living expenses.
Trips and activities provide opportunities to practice English outside the classroom, make friends, learn about local culture, and share your own culture. ALI students are encouraged to participate in
activities and trips.

SkillZone is IUP’s free drop-in tutoring center for all international students, including ALI, undergraduate, exchange, graduate, and visiting scholars. At SkillZone, students and scholars can access support to develop essential academic skills in a supportive
