Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s John J. and Char Kopchick College of Natural Sciences will host its first Environmental Science Career Fair on Nov. 4.

The event, free and open to all IUP students and alumni, will be held in the Hadley Union Building Ohio Room from 3 to 5:30 p.m.

This event will host more than 25 regional vendors including state agencies, conservation groups, private and non-profit organizations.

In addition to the vendor booths, there will be two panel discussions in the HUB Susquehanna Room with industry professionals discussing career opportunities and pathways.  The Ecology and Conservation Panel Discussion will take place from 3:30 to 4 p.m.; the Geosciences Careers Panel Discussion will take place from 4:30 to 5 p.m.

“IUP is incredibly fortunate to have strong ties to industry professionals – including many of our graduates -- in leadership positions in a variety of environmental fields, including in state agencies, consulting and conservation agencies,” Dr. Nick Deardorff, a professor in IUP’s Department of Anthropology, Geospatial and Earth Sciences, said.

“We’ve had an incredible response from individuals, businesses, and agencies – they tell us that our graduates come to them very well prepared for work in environmental science fields. The vendors are excited to talk with students, and potentially alumni, about internship and career opportunities,” he said.

“We hope that anyone interested in a career in the biology, earth and environmental sciences, or conservation will take advantage of this opportunity, especially students,” Dr. Deardorff said. “Students who form personal relationships with organizations outside of IUP by participating in internships and seasonal positions have much higher success at reaching their career goals. The career fair is also a great opportunity for anyone to learn about the types of positions for which employers are currently hiring,” he said.
