For Prospective Freshmen
- Admission Criteria: A student profile for a recent entering class for all IUP freshman was an average SAT score of 1000 (Mathematics and Critical Reading sections only) and an average cumulative high school grade point average of 3.2. There are no special admission requirements for acceptance into the medical technology major. - Living-Learning Communities: Medical technology students are encouraged to join nursing, respiratory care, and medical imaging students in a living-learning community located in Suites on Maple East. This option provides an excellent opportunity to share living space with students who have similar interests and similar curriculum requirements.
- Academic Support Services: The medical technology curriculum includes many challenging courses. IUP offers walk-in peer tutors, special supplemental instruction tutoring sessions, and other support services which help students succeed and excel. - The allied health coordinator is the academic advisor for medical technology students and can also assist with plans for academic success.
- Progression Criteria: Students are expected to have a minimum 2.8 grade point average in required math and science courses to be competitive for admission to one of the affiliating schools of medical technology. IUP does not guarantee admission to a clinical program.
- Special Requirements: Before starting the clinical year, students will need to meet special requirements including health screening and a criminal background check.
For IUP Students Who Want to Change Their Major to Medical Technology
Students must have at least a 2.0 grade point average to be accepted into the medical technology major. For more information about the program, about progression criteria and special requirements and for assistance in developing a potential plan of study contact the allied health coordinator.
For Prospective Transfer Students
- Admission Criteria: Students must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0 from all postsecondary institutions attended. - Online Credit Evaluation System: This is an excellent source to begin an assessment of which courses completed are equivalent to the courses required in the medical technology curriculum. In addition, the allied health coordinator is available to assist in the preliminary planning process for transferring to IUP.

For Students Who Already Have a Bachelor's Degree
Individuals who have already earned one bachelor's degree may be admitted to the university with advanced placement. To earn the second bachelor's degree, students must meet the remaining requirements for graduation specified for the medical technology program, including the twelve-month clinical year. In some cases where the first degree is in biology or chemistry, students may only have a few remaining requirements to complete before beginning the clinical year.
