Nursing, PhD: Application Requirements

The Nursing PhD program is offered completely online. Students must have a master's degree in nursing or a related field. Submit the following items to the IUP Admissions Office for admission consideration:

  • Complete the application form online, or request a hard copy by e-mailing graduate-admissions@iup.edu.
  • Nonrefundable $50 application fee
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Signed and dated statement of career and academic goals: Identify your professional goals and research area of interest, a summation of your achievements within the field of practice, and a summary of your research abilities
  • Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended, including those institutions from which a degree was not earned
  • Nursing license
  • Current curriculum vitae

Completed applications are forwarded by the Admission Office to the Department of Nursing and Allied Health Professions for review. Selected applicants are invited by the Department of Nursing and Allied Health Professions for an interview. Applications are accepted on a rolling admission basis.

Admission Requirements

Students seeking admission to the PhD program in Nursing must satisfy the minimum School of Graduate Studies and Research requirements and have a master's degree in nursing or a related field. International students are ineligible for the program.

All applicants must also submit the following for review by the doctoral program committee:

  • Official Higher Education Transcripts
  • Nursing License
  • Current Curriculum Vitae
  • Writing Sample (Goal Statement)
  • Two Letters of Recommendation
  • Personal Interview

All items in the applicant's application package will be evaluated by the doctoral program committee to provide a composite score for ranking of applicants to determine acceptance into the program.
