At IUP, Research Is Part of Our DNA

"Research is an essential component of the academic journey for anyone who wants to join in."

Whether we’re researching how zebrafish can regrow kidneys, unearthing artifacts at abandoned settlements, adapting a play to be friendly for people with autism, or training future police officers to better understand racial issues, every day IUP students and faculty members are seeking discoveries in every academic field imaginable.

Our approach to research makes IUP stand out from the crowd. We believe research should not be put off until graduate school. Instead, it’s an essential component of an academic journey for anyone who wants to join in.

Nationally Recognized

People have taken notice of our work, and here’s some evidence: every year our student and faculty researchers receive millions of dollars in grants to fund their work so they can continue to make discoveries. Here’s some more: the Carnegie Foundation classifies IUP as a doctoral university with high research activity. That’s an honor only met or exceeded by only about 7% of colleges nationally.

Changing the World While Changing Students’ Lives

When we roll up our sleeves and dig into research, we do it locally with an eye on a global application. But it’s more than that. While our research changes the world, it also changes the IUP experience of the students who conduct it. They leave here confident in their ability to solve problems, think critically, and remain curious as they enter the workforce.
