Carl Rahkonen, music librarian, has been elected to serve on the Finnish Council in America, an advisory body to the president of Finlandina University in Hancock, Michigan.

He serves on the Culture and Outreach Committee, and is involved with planning a Finnish-American folk music camp, to be held in the summer of 2011 on the Kewinaw Peninsula.

After the Finnish Council meeting this year, Rahkonen presented a paper, “Viola Turpeinen at 100,” at the Finn Grand Fest in Sault St. Marie, Ontario. The Finn Grand Fest is a large gathering of Finnish-Canadians and Americans that happens once every five years.
