“Back to School Bash” Collection for Local Mission Opportunity

Indiana area churches, businesses, and other organizations, including the Salvation Army and ICCAP, will be hosting a “Back to School Bash.” This takes place on Saturday, August 21, 2010, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Church Street between Sixth and Sevent streets. This is a local mission opportunity for the low-income children of the Indiana area.

IUP is supporting this event by collecting items to donate to the children on this important but festive occasion. Your donation of new and gently used clothing, backpacks, school supplies, and new underwear and socks will be appreciated. Volunteers, including beauticians, barbers, doctors, nurses, etc., who can provide assistance to the children on the day of the event, will be most appreciated.

This event is coordinated at IUP is by the African American Cultural Center’s (AACC) Project Cares program. Collection boxes will be posted at the Picnic in the Grove on August 4 and at the AACC in B23 Delaney Hall through August 17, 2010.

If you have items to donate, please bring and place them in the respective drop-off boxes. If you would like to volunteer or need more information, please contact Bill Shane at Graystone Presbyterian Church. You can also contact Dr. C. Princes at IUP at 724-357-2455.

As 60 percent of the Indiana, Pa., residents live at or below the poverty level, and one-third live at 50 percent below the poverty level, this means that one-third of our children live in families that truly struggle. Your donation will be greatly appreciated and provides another indication that IUP cares. Thank you for your consideration of this event.
