IUP Phi Beta Lambda Wins Numerous Awards at State Competition

On Friday, April 9, 2010, members of Phi Beta Lambda headed to Harrisburg for Pennsylvania Phi Beta Lambda’s State Leadership Conference. Members test and perform in competitive events ranging from accounting to job interviewing in hopes of advancing to the national leadership conference. This dream became a reality with IUP’s chapter bringing back a total of twenty-three awards.

  • First-place winners include: Shane Slagle (Financial Concepts), Meghan McCarthy and Michael Field (Marketing Analysis and Decision Making), Stef Cywinski (Sales Presentation), Sonya Chilenski (Project Management), and Megan Chamberlain, Sean Rosembaum, and Sonya Chilenski (Website Development).
  • Second-place winners include: Sean Rosenbaum (Database Design and Application), Amanda Raup and Meghan McCarthy (Emerging Business Issue), Amanda Raup and Shane Slagle (Financial Services), and Graham Smith (Impromptu Speaking).
  • Third-place winners include: Sarah LaSalvia (Business Communications) and Michael Field (Future Business Executive).

Phi Beta Lambda 

Special recognition goes out to Sonya Chilenski (first place) and Charles DeCarlo (runner-up) as Pennsylvania’s Who’s Who in PBL. IUP was also awarded as this year’s Outstanding Chapter, winning the Gold Seal Chapter Award of Merit.

Dr. Lucinda Willis was named Pennsylvania PBL Advisor of the Year. She was nominated by the officers and members of the IUP PBL chapter.

IUP PBL was also recognized for their strong participation with Habitat for Humanity, as well as with the Pittsburgh Ronald McDonald House.

The last award was in recognition of Janet Buggey, owner of the One Hour Downtown Dry Cleaners on Philadelphia Street in Indiana for PA PBL Business Person of the Year for her continuous support for IUP PBL’s Professional Yard Sale.

PBL members are preparing for the National Leadership Conference upcoming in July, 2010, in Nashville, Tenn.
