Take Back The Night March, April 7

Posted on 4/2/2010 10:06:05 AM

Please join us in the Delaney Courtyard on Wednesday evening, April 7, 2010, to take part in IUP’s annual Take Back The Night march and show your support for survivors of violence. This event is held each year in an effort to end violence and send the message that victims and survivors will no longer remain fearful and secluded in their homes at night.

As part of April’s National Sexual Assault Awareness Month, IUP’s Haven Project takes part in this annual international march. Although the march emphasizes violence that occurs at night, violence is an important issue at all times of the day. Marchers call attention to this issue in hopes of empowering the community to stand up to violence at any time.

Schedule of Events:

  • Gathering in Delaney Courtyard at 7:45 p.m.
  • Opening remarks and moment of silence at 8:00 p.m.
  • March begins at 8:10 p.m. Please obey all pedestrian rules—remain on the sidewalk and do not enter the street except at crosswalks.
  • Speak-Out following the march in the Delaware Room, HUB (Hadley Union Building)
  • Welcome and guest speaker, Dr. Laurie Cannady, 9:00 p.m.
  • Speak-Out: This gives survivors and supporters an opportunity to tell their story or share in support of survivors of violence. Please be respectful, and do not share anyone’s personal story you hear at the speak-out without their consent.
