On Sunday, September 27, 2009, a memorial concert was held in Fisher Auditorium for Dr. Daniel DiCicco. “Doc” taught at IUP for thirty-three years and was director emeritus of Bands. He passed away on February 3, 2009.
The IUP Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, and Marching Band—ensembles that Doc directed during his years at IUP—performed during this memorial concert. In addition, an alumni concert band and jazz band were formed and performed as part of the concert. Dr. David Martynuik, clarinet, performed the Franz Schubert “Der Hirt auf dem Felsen” with Dr. Mary Logan-Hastings, soprano, and Dr. James Staples, piano.
Over fifty alumni, spanning six decades, participated in the concert. From Dan Borlawsky (B.S. in Education, 1959) to a quartet of 2009 graduates—Amanda Crane (B.S. in Education), Kari Hamilton (B.S. in Education), Erin Moscony (B.F.A.), and Adrienne Radesky (B.F.A.)—IUP graduates rehearsed throughout the day on Saturday prior to Sunday afternoon’s performance.
In order to raise the necessary funds to name our large rehearsal room after “Doc” DiCicco, we are continuing our campaign by offering an audio CD and/or a DVD of the memorial concert with a certain level of contribution. For more information, please visit the DiCicco Memorial Concert webpage on the Department of Music’s website.
Contributions should be sent to: The Foundation for IUP, G-1 Sutton Hall, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Indiana, PA 15705 or visit visit Support IUP and select the Dr. Daniel and Dorothy DiCicco Rehearsal Hall from the dropdown list.
