Men’s Basketball

The Crimson Hawks continued their historic season by winning the NCAA Atlantic Region championship March 16, 2010, at Memorial Field House. IUP will bring a school-record thirty-one wins and a number-two national ranking into the Elite Eight beginning March 24 in Springfield, Mass.

Women’s Basketball

IUP forward Sarah Pastorek was selected PSAC West Freshman of the Year, while junior guard Lacey Claar was selected to the all-conference second team in balloting by the division’s head coaches.

Indoor Track and Field

Nafee Harris won the national championship in the long jump for the second time in his career at the NCAA indoor meet in Albuquerque, N.M. Also earning All-America honors were Leander Toney in the high jump and Brianna Liebold and Laurie Ajavon in the women’s long jump.

Jackie Hynson starred at the NCAA championships, finishing third in the 200 backstroke and 200 butterfly while also taking eleventh place in the 100 butterfly. She broke a school record in all three events.

With a 12-7 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne, IUP snapped a five-game losing streak to wrap up its spring trip to the Carolinas. Its record stands at 4-10 as of March 17. Earlier this month, IUP senior catcher T.J. Nichols was named the first PSAC West Player of the Week for the 2010 season.

Field Hockey

Gary Agard has been hired as the new field hockey head coach. Agard comes to IUP after spending the previous eight seasons as an assistant coach for perennial national power Bloomsburg.

Men’s Golf

The IUP golf team rolled to a 39-shot victory over California at the St. James Plantation Invitational in its opening tournament of the spring season. Gavin Smith, Brad Boyle, and Nic Milito took the top three individual spots.

The lacrosse team opened its first home action of the season with a 22-6 victory over Tiffin, bringing the Hawks’ record to 2-2.

Women’s Softball

Erin Holloway recorded her third shutout of the season as the women’s softball team swept Lake Erie at Slattery Field in Painesville, Ohio. In the first game, the Crimson Hawks rolled to the 3-0 victory and, in the nightcap, posted a 9-1 win to complete the sweep and improve to 11-1 on the year.

Women’s Tennis

The women’s tennis team did not lose a set in rolling to a 9-0 victory over Virginia State in the final match of its southern trip. The Crimson Hawks have a record of 8-4 as they head back north.
