Dr. David LaPorte of the Psychology Department will be discussing the development of the fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders on Thursday, March 18, 2010, at 12:15 p.m. in Uhler Hall, Room 116.

The American Psychiatric Association has released the proposed diagnostic sets for mental disorders and is seeking public comment. There are many significant changes that are worth discussing and commenting about as the revision committee is seeking public feedback.

The Psychology Department will hold a series of sessions concerning these changes. The first DSM-5 Brown Bag will consider the process used to develop the draft criteria. Then two of the more controversial proposals—minor cognitive disorder and psychosis risk syndrome—will be discussed. Future brown bags will consider other disorders.
