IUP Night at Heinz Hall Set for February 19

The IUP College of Fine Arts and Department of Music are sponsoring a trip to hear the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in Heinz Hall on Friday, February 19, 2010. A bus will depart from Cogswell Hall at 5:30 p.m., arriving in time for the 8:00 p.m. concert. This trip, an annual event, is part of the ongoing partnership with between IUP and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.

The program, titled An American Voyage, includes Gershwin’s “An American in Paris”; Bernstein’s “Three Dance Episodes” from On the Town; a song cycle by PSO guest composer Richard Danielpour (pictured here) titled “Pastime,” which is a tribute to baseball legends Josh Gibson, Jackie Robinson, and Hank Aaron; and “Liquid Interface” by Mason Bates, which combines traditional orchestra with electronic music to explore the nature of water, from breaking ice, water droplets, and the destructive force of hurricanes to the gentle flow of a stream.

The deadline for purchasing tickets is Monday, February 8. Tickets, which include coach transportation, are $32 for the gallery, $45 for the family circle, and $55 for the main floor. To reserve tickets to the concert, download the order form and return with your payment to the IUP Music Department.
