Steve Hovan, Department of Geosciences, participated in an international meeting at the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP) headquarters in College Station, Texas. This “sampling party” was a chance for the scientists involved in a recent research expedition to the Equatorial Pacific Ocean to sample the sediment cores collected while at sea.
Steve joined thirty-five other international scientists in College Station for the week of October 12, 2009, to sample cores, edit the official science report from their expedition (IODP #320 and #321), and talk about their upcoming research plans. These sampling parties are much less of a party and much more of an intense week-long work session.
Steve also had the opportunity to meet with recent department graduate Ashley Hague (’09), a graduate student in the Department of Oceanography at Texas A&M.
