Geoscience’s Taylor to Present “Life and Times in the Pennsylvanian Coal Swamp” at IUP Museum

John Taylor, of the Department of Geoscience, will present a community lecture on October 14, 2009, as part of the R&P Coal Culture Lecture Series.

His talk, “Life and Times in the Pennsylvanian Coal Swamp: The Origin of Pennsylvania’s Coal Deposits,” will take attendees back in time to the Pennsylvanian Period (roughly 300 million years ago) and describe where and how the coal seams of western Pennsylvania formed in swamps near the equator. The talk will also introduce them to the remarkable animals and plants that inhabited western Pennsylvania at that time in Earth’s history.

When: October 14, 2009, 7:00–8:00 p.m.
