Dr. Jill Brady, assistant professor in the speech-language pathology program in the Department of Special Education, published a book titled Inter-sentential Influences on Predicted Verb Subcategorization.
This work, based on her dissertation research conducted at the University of Pittsburgh, was an investigation of the potential discourse-level influences on the prediction for upcoming verb subcategorizations—the obligatory and optional upcoming structures associated with the verb. Per-phoneme reading times across the target region were found to be significantly faster following coherent (vs. incoherent) contexts, but syntactic priming did not influence reading times.
