The IUP Trombone Studio will hold a reunion over the weekend of April 17, 18, and 19, 2009, on the IUP campus.
The first public event will be a performance by the IUP Trombone Choir, with nineteen trombonists under the direction of Dr. Christian Dickinson, and the IUP Trombone Reunion Choir, with over thirty alumni plus the IUP Trombone Choir. The IUP Trombone Reunion Choir will be directed by Dr. Dickinson, professor of trombone at IUP, and Mr. Richard Thorell, professor emeritus of IUP. Mr. Watters is a trombonist with the United States Army Blues Jazz Ensemble and the United State Army Brass Quintet located in Washington, D.C. Also featured at this concert will be a reunion of The Hickeybones, a jazz trombone ensemble formed during the late 1960s on the IUP campus by Ron Hickey, who went on to work as a staff arranger for the United States Army Band in Washington, D.C. This concert will be held in Fisher Auditorium on Saturday, April 18, 2009, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets will be available after April 6, 2009, at the HUB: regular price $9, discount $8, I-Card $6, or sold at the door.
Both concerts are open to the public. On Sunday, April 19, members of the Alumni Trombone Group will perform as part of the 10:30 a.m. worship service at Zion Lutheran Church in Indiana.
