The third annual PASSHE Diversity Summit, Curriculum Change: The Next Step in Diversity and Inclusion, will be held from Thursday, April 23, through Friday, April 24, 2009, at the Four Points Sheraton in Harrisburg.

Attendees will have a unique opportunity to hear from speakers, engage in meaningful discussions, and share practical teaching methods which help to develop culturally competent students. The goal is to enhance the living and learning environments across the Commonwealth by ensuring that diversity is infused in the curricula.

The third annual Diversity Summit has three goals:

  • To offer information about diverse curricula and their role in the development of culturally competent students
  • To demonstrate best practices in the development and delivery of diverse curricula
  • To encourage participants to establish a curriculum and instruction network across PASSHE through which successful models of diverse curricula can be shared

The Office of Social Equity and Civic Engagement would like to congratulate Mr. Raymond Coppler and Ms. Darla Barie for being selected to serve on a student panel during the 2009 Diversity Summit. These students submitted essays through the Office of Social Equity and Civic Engagement to PASSHE and were awarded this distinguished recognition from among the fourteen state universities entries. They will be among ten student participants from across the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.

Dr. Victor Garcia, along with two of his students, Carina Heckert and Qiana Lightner, were also chosen to make a presentation at the summit. Congratulations!
