Rosemary Gido presented a living history reenactment of two Montana women from the 1890–1920 homesteading era at the October 16–17, 2008, PA-SSHE Women’s Consortium Conference on Women and Politics: The Power of Choices, Coalitions, Alliances, and Collaborations. Echoing the consortium “theme,” Gido’s vignettes described the political and social backdrop of the era in which women and their families struggled to survive in central Montana homesteading and coal-mining communities. She also discussed Jeannette Rankin as the first woman Congressman, an early suffragette from Montana, who went to D.C. in 1916.
