The Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE), supported by the Office of the Provost and Office of the President, offers a three-day orientation to welcome all new faculty members to the IUP community.
The CTE has planned a New Faculty Orientation for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, August 18–20, 2008. The workshops will begin at 8:00 a.m., with a continental breakfast in the Crimson Event Center in Folger Hall, followed by the orientation sessions. Lunch is provided each day. We will finish by 1:30 p.m. on Monday, 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, and 4:00 p.m. Wednesday. This schedule will allow you to attend to other important personal and academic concerns while providing you with information crucial to navigating your first year.
The focus Monday will be essential information you need for the start of classes. Instruction technology services staff will help you to access and use the various drives and answer technical questions. On Tuesday, we will discuss important policies and support structures you need to know about immediately. Suggestions on teaching, interacting with IUP students, and joining the Indiana community will also be offered by faculty members who have completed one or two years of teaching at IUP. On Wednesday, we will split the day between discussion of successful teaching strategies and support for pursuing research.
These three days are only the beginning of your orientation. The Center for Teaching Excellence will offer short seminars each month for new faculty through its Sustained Support Program, providing more in-depth information about topics and issues our faculty members have told us are important in making decisions regarding teaching, scholarship, and service. More information is available at 2008 New Faculty Orientation.
