Information for Residential Students from Housing

Posted on 1/8/2021 2:50:08 PM

On Tuesday, January 5, President Driscoll emailed all students strongly encouraging them to continue their remote instruction away from campus and the Indiana community through Sunday, February 7, due to the coronavirus situation in our community and region.

We understand this announcement has generated many housing related questions, and you may be concerned about when you can return to your residence hall. Please be assured that we are here to accommodate you—you will be able to stay in your suite during this time period and/or have access to your room to retrieve any necessary belongings.

Housing and Dining will be open for students beginning Saturday, January 16, 2021.

Before the first day of classes (Tuesday, January 19), please tell us your plans. Letting us know your plans ensures that we have your card access turned on and ready for your arrival, as well as helps us know who is here and who is not here at the start of the semester

  • Select a date and time for your arrival that meets your needs. You may arrive any time beginning January 16, regardless of your class schedule.
  • In order to accommodate student schedules, available dates/times to return to campus will be from January 16 through February 7 from noon to 4:00 p.m. daily (including weekends).
    •  If something comes up and you need to change your plans, you can always go back in, cancel it and select a new move-in date.

If you are experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19, please do not come to campus. You can change your arrival time slot as needed by following the steps above.

People with these symptoms may have COVID-19 (as per the CDC):

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea

IUP will offer free, on-campus COVID-19 testing for all students in spring 2021 starting January 11. Testing is highly recommended but not required as students move back to campus and into the IUP community. For complete information regarding testing, please visit IUP’s COVID-10 Health and Safety pages.

  • Students must preregister for their testing appointment through the Virus Geeks portal.
    • Students who have any COVID-19 symptoms cannot be tested by Virus Geeks. Contact your private health care provider or IUP Health Service (724-357-2550), who can provide testing to symptomatic students.
  • Dates and times
    • January 11–15: 8:00 a.m. to noon
    • You can use our Hand & Go dining services and the Grubhub mobile ordering app for maximum convenience and safety.
    • As soon as you have computer access, update your contact information in MyIUP. Correct information is critical to our notification process.
    • Something to consider—results may take 24 hours or more. Depending on when you need to physically attend a class or other event, you may want to arrive on campus earlier than planned so that you have your results in time.

Need to retrieve belongings from your room, but are not staying? Follow these steps:

    • From now until January 16: In order to access your room, please call us at 724-357-2696 to schedule a time to access your suite.
    • From January 16 to February 7: In order to access your room but not check in for the semester, please email iup-housing@iup.edu and we will turn on your card access during the timeframe needed.

We look forward to seeing you safely in person soon.

As always, if you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us at iup-housing@iup.edu.
