Guides Lining Up to Serve Students

We asked, and you answered the call! The Student Support and Engagement Team is proud to announce that 67 staff and faculty members have signed up for the Guide Program

Caitlin Aiello, the director of Communications for Student Affairs and SSET co-chair, said, “The response has been incredible. We are seeing employees from all areas of the university volunteering to be Guides to our students. This is truly a university-wide effort that proves that we can knock down silos for our students’ betterment.”

Adam Jones, the director of Student Support and Community Standards and SSET co-chair, said, “We have already hit our initial goal—to assign roughly 25 students to each of our Guides. But the work isn’t done yet. We are still accepting Guides that can fill in as alternates to assist us in responding to staff and faculty referrals on behalf of our upper-level students, so please consider signing up.”

Dates for training the Guides are not yet finalized, but will likely take place sometime during the second week of August.

Ann Sesti, director of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs and SSET co-chair, remarked, “We’d like to thank the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs and all of the other upper-level administration for showing their support for the Guide Program. We look forward to working alongside all areas of the university as we launch this new program.”

What are Guides?

Guides will function as support and contact points between students and campus and community resources. Each Guide will be assigned a group of incoming students who they will “follow” through graduation.

The Guide’s purpose is to minimize searching for appropriate campus and community resources on behalf of the student and to foster a deeper and more meaningful connection to the university.
