Support Is Here for You

Good Evening IUP Students,

As you may have heard from news reports today, four men were arrested and charged by Indiana Borough Police as suspects in the violence that occurred on the evening of February 14 at two off-campus houses. No additional suspects are being sought in conjunction with this incident.

Although these suspects are in custody, we understand that you may continue to have strong feelings of concern and worry about this violence in our IUP community. Please know that there are many people here who are trained and prepared to help you to work through your concerns.

In the case that you have an immediate need for mental health support after traditional business hours, please call 9-1-1 or the Indiana/Armstrong Mental Health Crisis line 1-877-333-2470 for help.

During the week, the IUP Counseling Center is available by calling 724-357-2621 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Walk-in hours at the Center are Monday through Friday from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

I continue to see example after example of how strongly this community cares for one another. As a member of this caring community, I am asking for your continued help. If a friend or acquaintance is in distress, please reach out to them and let them know of the resources we have in place to offer assistance. You can also contact a member of IUP’s Care Team of faculty and staff. This group works as a team to provide appropriate support to students in distress.

Stay safe. Thank you for looking out for one another.

I continue to be proud and honored to be part of the Crimson Hawk family.

Respectfully,
Dr. Thomas Segar
Vice President for Student Affairs
