Michael Schwartz, an associate professor in the Theatre, Dance, and Performance Department, has been named a finalist in the 2020 Southeastern
Theatre Conference/Stage Rights Ready to Publish competition for his play A Punchline.
Schwartz's play is one of 10 finalists out of over 200 submissions. The winning play will be published and featured in the Stage Rights catalog, with a reading to be given at the 2020 SETC.
The play, on which Schwartz has been working while at IUP for the past several years, concerns a Holocaust survivor who goes on to create a popular Hogan's Heroes-style TV show that makes fun of the Nazis.
A Punchline has previously been given a reading at the Ground and Field Theatre Festival at UC–Davis, and has placed as semi-finalist in the Detroit New Works Festival and as finalist in the Equity Library Theatre of Chicago's All Access: New
Play Reading Series.
