Two undergraduate students and two faculty in the Department
of Kinesiology, Health, and Sport Science were each recognized for
winning a separate award at the 98th annual PSAHPERD conference,
held in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, on December 5–6, 2019.
Health and Physical Education students Jaycelyn Flemming and
Kevin Smith received the only two student awards given out by the organization.
Flemming received the Violet Baumgardner Scholarship Award and Smith received the
Outstanding Future Professional Award. Both awards recognize student achievements in academics,
professional service and potential, contributions to the department/college/university, contributions to the community, and/or community service.
David Wachob, associate professor in KHSS, was awarded the
University Physical Education Teachers of the Year for his work with ESL
students, his public-school research in active classrooms, and other
commitments to the profession.
David Lorenzi, associate professor in KHSS, was awarded the Elmer
B. Cottrell Award, the highest award given by PSAHPERD. This award recognizes
exceptional service and leadership to PSAHPERD and to the profession. Lorenzi
has served as president, executive board member, and journal editor for
PSAHPERD in recent years.
