The Upward Bound Math and Science Program at IUP is pleased to announce two PA TRIO scholarship recipients. Lauren Boring and Nicole Shaffer, both 2019 graduates of Purchase Line High School, were each awarded a scholarship of $750 to supplement their education expenses as they pursue B.S. degrees this fall.  Lauren is an Architectural Interior Design major at Chatham University and Nicole is on the PharmD track at Wilkes University in Scranton, PA.

The Pennsylvania Association of TRIO Programs (PA TRIO) represents member institutions that include universities, colleges, and community educations centers hosting TRIO programs. Scholarship winners are selected from a pool of graduating high school seniors participating in each pre-college TRIO program (Upward Bound, Upward Bound Math and Science, Veterans Upward Bound, Talent Search, and Educational Opportunity Centers) based on an essay submission addressing the question, “What have you overcome in your life to begin your college journey at your institution.”

Lauren Boring was a participant in the UBMS program for four years during high school, while Nicole Shaffer was a UBMS participant for two years. Lauren and Nicole join six previous UBMS participants who have been recognized with this honor. Congratulations Lauren and Nicole!
