This is part of #EberlyDoesSports, a series from the IUP Eberly College of Business and Information Technology that focuses on business majors who play team sports, club sports, or are involved in sports at a community or individual level.

Kyle Varone is a senior at IUP  studying Marketing in the Eberly College of Business and Information Technology and plays Ultimate Frisbee.

Varone chose to attend IUP because it felt like the best fit for him when considering how he felt about the campus and the comfort he felt with the Eberly College of Business. Of all the schools he toured, he liked what he heard about the marketing program at IUP the best, so it worked out for me to come to school here. Varone also loved hearing about the extensive alumni network Eberly has–especially in the Pittsburgh area.

Kyle Varone, Senior Marketing Major November 2019“I am from York, PA which is about three hours away from Indiana. My older brother toured IUP when he was looking at schools, so I decided to check it our for myself when the time came. I liked how it was far from home but not far enough where it would be tough for me to get home if I needed to. In addition, most of my family members went to colleges closer to our home in central PA so being the first to go to a western PA school was appealing to me,” said Varone.

Varone had some great things to say about Eberly. “I have had some incredible experiences in Eberly. I’ve gotten to take some courses such as business law and information management which were very interesting and taught me a lot of concepts outside of my marketing courses. I also participated in the Discover Norway program through Eberly this past summer. That trip has to be one of my favorite college memories so far and it would not have been possible if I didn’t go to IUP/Eberly.”

The sport that Varone has been playing since coming to IUP is Ultimate Frisbee. He started playing Ultimate Frisbee in the Spring of 2017 and this is his third full year playing. Varone had never played Ultimate Frisbee before coming to IUP.

Kyle Varone, Ultimate Frisbee Player, November 2019“I plan on moving to a city and pursuing a career in sales or marketing. Through playing Ultimate, I learned the value of hard work and being a cohesive team, which will help me as I prepare to enter a competitive business world. Eberly has helped lay the academic foundation for me to be successful when I leave IUP.”

Varone’s biggest core values are kindness and honesty. He goes through life treating others the way that he wants to be treated. Varone says you never know who could help you down the line in your career or life in general, so you should always try to respect everyone no matter what.

“My quote would be ‘respect yourself and others will respect you,’ which Confucius said. It's very simple, but I've always felt that if you live your life by this saying you can't go wrong.”

We look forward to sharing their accomplishments with the IUP community and beyond.
