On Monday October 8, the IUP Department of Hospitality Management hosted its second annual career fair in the Hadley Union Building’s Ohio Room. Students networked with professionals in the hospitality industry that ranged from hotels to restaurants, events, and resorts.

Representatives from IUP graduate programs including Human Resources and Employment Relations and Sports Management attended to speak with students who are looking to continue their IUP education.

With 20 different employers and over 100 students, there was a lot of movement and exchanging of business cards  as employers and students circulated through the room. Some employers in attendance included Eat'n'Park Hospitality Group, Bahama Breeze Darden Restaurant Group, University Center, Blueridge Restaurant Group,  Springfield Restaurant Group, Nemacolin Woodlands Resort, Horizon Hospitality, Hershey Entertainment and Resorts, Metz Culinary Management, Cedar Point Amusement Park, Penn National Gaming, Aires, Enterprise, the Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch, and Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants.

Professor Nicole Buse said students in her Professional Development class were challenged to “spend the career fair not only to seek internship opportunities but also to network and connect with an industry representative/alum who would serve in a professional mentoring role for them.”

Senior hospitality student Isaac Lowe remarked, “the career fair was a great opportunity to network and make connections with professionals within the industry. I was able to gain valuable insight on the different career and education opportunities for myself upon graduation.”

Hospitality student Sadie Lightner added, “the hospitality career fair has pleasantly surprised me yet again. I loved getting to meet with other professionals in my field and expand my network.” Lightner had previously received and completed an internship opportunity she found through last year's career fair.

Though the career fair is over for this year, students and employers will continue to be in touch over the next few weeks discussing their future relationship, whether it’s an internship or a work-to-hire or a full time position. The Department of Hospitality thanks all of the employers and students who attended and faculty members who made the event possible.
