Shiring had the opportunity to tour the distillery and learn first-hand how the top-selling Tennessee American whisky is made. Following in the footsteps of Jack himself, Shiring was taught the step-by-step procedures used in the distillation process by Jack Daniels. Joining one of over 45,000 visitors that weekend, he also enjoyed the Jack Daniels 2019 World Championship Invitational Barbeque hosted by the distiller. This year, joining the 113 championship teams from the United States were 27 international teams.

Shiring said, “The experience of touring the Jack Daniels Distillery was just amazing. Being able to bring back and this experience to the students in the Department of Hospitality Management will enhance their understanding of the Tennessee whisky distillation process. During my time at the distillery, I spent some time with a member of the Jack Daniels company discussing with them our Allenwood lab, which houses our commercial food production kitchen and dining room and is used to teach our food and beverage management and service concepts.”
