The first annual Department of Hospitality Management “Welcome Home” Alumni Dinner on October 3, 2019, was a huge success. The dinner, held in the Allenwood, was sponsored by Pittsburgh Brewing Company, the makers of the iconic Iron City Brand and I.C. Light. This was the first event and pairing of its kind as alumni, retired faculty, department faculty, college administration,
and representatives of the Pittsburgh Brewing Company gathered to commence IUP Homecoming.
Chef Jeffrey Santicola and his Restaurant Food Production and Service lab students curated the upscale menu, cooked the food in the commercial kitchen, and served the meal using the American Service Dining style in the Allenwood.
The Allenwood Lab is the department’s commercial food production kitchen and dining areas within Ackerman Hall. All hospitality management students are required to experience this course prior to graduation. During the event, our alumni shared stories
and reminisced of the dinner events they had planned and implemented as students in the major. Many expressed how important this upper-level senior course was to them in their development as a current professional hospitality manager.
The Department of Hospitality Management looks forward to hosting this and many other similar events in the future. In the meantime, the Department welcomes you to join them for either dinner or lunch at the Allenwood, located on the ground floor in Ackerman
