The Department of Hospitality Management and Reinhart Foodservice, a family-owned enterprise and one of the largest foodservice distributors in the country, has partnered to deliver yet another exceptional learning opportunity for IUP students.  Reinhart Foodservice has created, for the IUP Hospitality Management students, a user-friendly accessible learning platform within their TRACS Direct restaurant management system.

Zachery Young, chef and sales consultant for Reinhart Foodservice, said “Reinhart is dedicated to helping IUP and the Department of Hospitality Management train the next generation of food and beverage management professionals. Our TRACS Direct restaurant management system is the industry-leading online kitchen and restaurant management system.”

Stephen Shiring, chairperson of the Department of Hospitality Management, said, “The IUP Hospitality Management students now have direct access to Reinhart’s Distribution Centers, providing real-time data, including specifications and pricing on thousands of products ranging from top national brands to Reinhart’s own high-quality Exclusive Brand assortment. Categories include fresh meat, seafood, produce, dairy/non-dairy, coffee, dry groceries, frozen foods, refrigerated foods, china, utensils, disposables and foodservice equipment, and small wares. This student learning platform will certainly give our graduates the experience to provide for them a competitive advantage when interviewing for the professional management job in the marketplace.”

Yasong Wang, Hospitality Management associate professor, said, “The RFS TRACS Direct student learning platform allows Hospitality Management faculty to assign ‘real-operational’ assignments within curriculum content areas of purchasing, recipe development and management, real-time cost analysis and pricing, menu development and planning, nutritional information, quantity food production, and fine dining. Students gain experience in budget forecasting, inventory control, placing orders, and understanding purchase requisitions and invoices.”

Chef Jeffrey Santicola said, “Our students, for example, are required to work in three food production lab courses.  The Reinhart TRACS Direct restaurant management system will enhance the skill set of our students and be a powerful addition to the curriculum.”

Founded in 1972 in La Crosse, Wisconsin, Reinhart is dedicated to driving the success of their customers and the communities in which they serve. Reinhart is committed to the highest level of customer service, safety, and sustainability, and pride themselves on delivering timely and innovative solutions to their customers.

Shiring said, “We continue to strive to provide the IUP Hospitality Management student the Premier educational management training and necessary hands-on experience within the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education system.”
