Homecoming is upon us—so, as a reminder, here’s  information about tailgating at IUP.  And, for a quick go-to, this infographic provides some highlights.  We are looking forward to a fun and safe Homecoming weekend, as well as at future Crimson Hawks’ home games.

What you need to know about TailgatingThe below list of rules and regulations was developed through collaboration between IUP Athletics, University Police, the vice president of University Advancement, and the vice president for Administration, Business, and Hospitality Services in early August 2019.

  • Tailgating lots will open three hours prior to the start of the game and close one hour after kick-off. All parking spots are limited to one vehicle. Reserving spots for others is prohibited.

  • You are required to clean up your own tailgate area and place any trash and recyclables in the appropriate receptacles near your area.

  • Use of motorized vehicles (i.e., golf carts, mules, gators, motorized skateboards, etc.) is prohibited.

  • Use of university electricity for tailgating is prohibited. Recreational generators with noise levels that do not exceed 80 dB are allowed in the immediate tailgate site.

  • Pets are not allowed to run at large in tailgating areas or on university property and must be leashed at all times. Additionally, animals may not be left unattended or secured to private vehicles or university property. Clean up after your pet.

  • The possession or consumption of alcoholic beverages is permitted by individuals 21 years and older. The use of alcoholic beverages by guests at IUP events is at all times subject to the alcoholic beverage laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

  • Plastic bottles and aluminum cans are permitted. Glass containers, kegs, and beer bongs are prohibited.

  • Commercial activity and/or solicitations are prohibited in the tailgate areas. Designated areas for these activities are available via registration with IUP Athletics.

  • Any person or group damaging university property will be responsible for the cost of repairs. Intentional damage may be charged as a crime.

  • Driving or parking private vehicles in greenspace or no parking areas is prohibited. Persons, tents, tables, or any other tailgating related objects may not obstruct drive lanes in the parking lots, sidewalks, or pedestrian walkways.

  • Small propane grills are allowed, but fryers, charcoal grills, open fire pit devices, or fires built on the ground are prohibited.

  • All individuals must respect the rights of others using the tailgating area. The Office of Public Safety will ask fans to leave the area immediately if they are disruptive, disorderly, present safety problems, or violate university policies and laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

  • Smoking and vaping are allowed so long as the smoke/fumes are not causing inconvenience for nearby guests.

  • Amplified or loud music, bands, DJs, or other similar setups are not permitted.

  • Season-long tailgating spots can be purchased prior to the season by calling IUP Athletics.

  • Participation in athletic activities (i.e., throwing footballs, frisbees, etc.) will be limited to areas away from buildings, including fields, vacant spaces outside the highly congested parking area, and hotel property.

  • The use of hotel property is reserved elusively for hotel patrons. Tailgating and recreational activities are limited to the IUP parking lots listed above and fields adjacent to the stadium.

  • IUP is not responsible or liable for accidents, damage, loss or theft of personal materials, items, or property at tailgating sites.

  • Tailgaters are encouraged to contact IUP Police at 724-357-2141 when another tailgate party interferes with other guests. The university reserves the right to refuse service or access to anyone at any time. Behavior in violation of tailgating rules will result in the permanent loss of parking and tailgating privileges.
