Michael Powell, associate registrar for Scheduling and Registration, has been selected to serve as acting registrar, effective September 16. He will fill the vacancy created by the departure of Lisa Richardson-Bray, interim registrar, as she takes a position closer to her home.
“Lisa has been a creative and forward thinking team leader, and I want to thank her for her energy and her excellent work here at IUP and wish her well in her new position,” Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Timothy Moerland said.
“She and her team have completed several critical projects that will both modernize services in the Office of the Registrar and position the university to be even more efficient and responsive to student needs, including a new and improved room scheduling system and catalog management process,” he said.
Moerland noted that Acting Registrar Powell has been at the center of these new initiatives and projects, and that Powell is well positioned to continue the forward momentum created by Richardson-Bray.
“I am very, very pleased that Michael has agreed to serve in this role during this time of transition. The university is in good hands,” Moerland said.
Powell joined the IUP community in January 2018. His primary responsibilities have included preparing the university’s systems for student registrations each semester; managing classroom scheduling; assisting in orientations for new freshman, transfer and international students; and updating the Undergraduate Catalog.
Powell has also taken the lead in the development and execution of the Graduation Fair (formerly Salute to Grads), and has assisted with university commencement ceremonies. He is an advisor for IUP’s Paranormal Society.
