The IUP Chinese Language Program, together with IUP Chinese Language and Culture Club, held their annual celebration of the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival (also known as the Chinese Moon Festival) on September 13 and 15, 2019.
The Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival, one of the most important traditional holidays for Chinese society, falls on September 13 in 2019, which is August 15 on the Lunar calendar.
The IUP Chinese Language Program and Chinese Language and Culture Club (CLCC), led by Shijuan Liu and student leaders Ronald Issis, Julianna Hindman, Yuxing Deng, and Matthew Hiles, organized two celebration activities.
Informal information sessions were held in the lobby of HSS Building on Friday, September 13, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Display boards that included rich information and colorful pictures about the Moon Festival and other Chinese traditional holidays were displayed. Participants also received handouts and tasted Chinese candies and samples of moon cakes.
The other event was held in Room G98 of Wallwork Hall. Participants enjoyed songs and performances selected from the 2019 Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival Gala presented by China Central Television. They also learned how to play Chinese chess and Majiang (mahjong) board games. In addition, participants tasted a variety of sample moon cakes and listened to the introduction given by Liu regarding the ancient legends related to the Moon Festival and contemporary space initiatives concerning the moon in China.
Some pictures of the events are available from the CLCC club online album.
