The Department of Theatre, Dance, and Performance at IUP will present the play Actually, written by
Anna Ziegler. Directed by Rick Kemp, the production will run September
27, 28, October 2, 3, 4, and 5 at 7:30 p.m. and September 29 at 2:00
p.m. on the Waller Hall Mainstage on the IUP campus.
and Tom, both freshmen at Princeton, spend a drunken night together.
Soon after, they find themselves testifying at a sexual misconduct
hearing. As the two students, one black and one white, tell their
stories, we are left wondering how to find certainty and justice when
there are three sides to every story. Investigating the hot-button
topics of gender and race politics, Actually tells a story about our
crippling desire to fit in.
Actually was first produced
in 2017 and was nominated for six Ovation Awards. Los Angeles Weekly
called it “…smart and penetrating…a top-notch narrative that travels
beyond the hot-button issue of date rape it tackles. The characters…are
as finely etched as in a good novel, and as satisfying.”
