Welcome to the University College at IUP! The University College staff and College Mentors are excited that you have chosen IUP as your home away from home and can’t wait to support you on your path to success.
Below, you will find information on upcoming events and tips for making your first semester a success. We've included some helpful reminders to be sure you are ready for your first week of classes.
Don’t miss the opportunity to meet your College Mentor, Student Success Specialists, and Peer Mentors and spend time getting to know your new UC family! Refreshments will be served.

The University College will hold its college reception event for students and families on Saturday, September 21, in the University College offices and outside on the Stabley Plaza from 10:30–11:30 a.m. Join UC staff, faculty and peer mentors for some friendly competition as we play various games including cornhole and giant Jenga. Refreshments will be served.

Print out and review your schedule before your first day of classes. Over the summer, there may have been location, instructor or time changes and we want to be sure you are prepared and on time for your first day of classes. Your schedule can be viewed and printed in MyIUP on the Academics page.
Order your textbooks and course materials ahead of time. Your professors will begin covering important course material and most will have reading assignments the first week of class. Not having required materials at the beginning will cause you to fall behind.
Learn more about accessing your booklist and how to order your textbooks and course materials through our bookstore.
Attend every class, even if your professor doesn’t take attendance. Missing class not only costs you money, it can cost you your grade. Students who attend class perform better academically and are more likely to graduate on time.
Ask for help. In college, it is the responsibility of the student to initiate contact when help is needed. There are resources available—all you need to do is ask. Not sure who to ask? Talk to your College Mentor, Peer Mentor, or a UC staff member.
Add your information to our UC Remind app to get texts regarding important campus deadlines and events. Don’t worry—your name and number will remain private. Add yourself by texting the message @uciup2019 to the number 81010.
University College is located on the ground floor of Stabley Library (B01) and can be accessed from our outside doors (across from Clark Hall) and from inside Stapleton Library’s main stairs (go all the way down to the ground floor and make a right, proceed straight through the doorway). We have flexible hours to meet your needs and hope that you will begin visiting us once you arrive on campus.
As you familiarize yourself with our campus, we hope you feel the strong sense of community and the dedication that IUP staff, faculty, and university administrators have regarding your success. We are committed to providing our students with a positive university experience, and we can’t wait to see all the great things you’ll achieve at IUP.
We look forward to meeting you next Sunday!
