“Gregory Mount, a geophysicist at Indiana University of Pennsylvania leading the experiment, unfurled an orange electrical cord with spring-like notches that team members clipped to rods they were pounding into the ground, 3 meters apart. Using a controller and a battery wrapped in blankets in a beverage cooler, Mr. Mount sent electricity into the ground through the rods in sequences over several hours.”
