Biology Students Win Statewide Research Awards

Undergraduate and graduate students presented award-winning research at the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania University Biologists annual meeting.

University biologists from across the state gathered at the 2019 annual CPUB meeting, hosted this year by Edinboro University on April 13–14. Seventeen students and multiple faculty were present to represent IUP. Thirteen students presented their research in oral or poster form, and six students were honored with research presentation awards, including:

  • Dan Dudek (advisor: Josiah Townsend): First place graduate platform
  • Suraj Niraula (advisor: Cuong Diep): Second place graduate poster
  • Claire Shemon (advisors: Carl Luciano/Seema Bharathan/Cuong Diep): Second place undergraduate platform (cell/molecular)
  • Diamond Madison (advisor: Dan Widzowski): First place undergraduate poster (cell/molecular)
  • Rebekah Mikeasky (advisor: Robert Major): Second place undergraduate poster (cell/molecular)
  • Esbeiry Cordova-Ortiz (advisor: Josiah Townsend): First place undergraduate poster (ecology/organismal)
