What a winter it was for our Crimson Hawks!

The campus was basketball crazy from November through March, when the IUP men’s and women’s teams made history. When combined, the IUP men’s and women’s basketball teams had the best record in the country by any university at any level of play. Both teams won PSAC championships, marking the first time one school claimed both titles since 1987. The women’s team advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Division II Elite Eight for the second consecutive year and at one point were ranked No. 1 in the country. The IUP men reached the No. 2 spot in the national poll and also continued to dominate the PSAC West by winning their ninth division title in 10 years. Women’s head coach Tom McConnell became the program’s all-time winningest coach, and men’s coach Joe Lombardi claimed his 300th career win, extending his own school record.

In swimming, IUP sent five individuals to the NCAA Division II Championships, and they came home with a collective four All-America honors, including three by Nicole Smith. And in indoor track and field, three members of the IUP men’s team advanced to the NCAA Championships, with DJ Horton and Christian Jones each claiming All-America honors.
