Seth Thomas, Benjamin Putnam, and D. Colton KensingerStudents Seth Thomas (sophomore, finance and accounting), Benjamin Putnam (senior, finance), and D. Colton Kensinger (senior, finance) competed as a team in the ACG Cup, winning round one and coming in as runner-up in round two.

According to the Association for Corporate Growth website, “The ACG Cup is a case study competition designed to give students from leading MBA programs across the country real-world experience and invaluable insights into mergers and acquisitions, investment banking, financial advisory, and private equity. Each case study provides students with a unique opportunity to present valuation, capital markets, and M&A strategic advice to a panel of seasoned M&A professionals from within the ACG community. The competition is carried out through a series of intra-school and regional competitions, with regional winners awarded the prestigious ACG Cup title and cash awards.”

Putnam stated, “For the past month, I have had the opportunity to compete as an undergraduate student against current MBA students from Carnegie Mellon, University of Pittsburgh, West Virginia University, and Duquesne University in a finance competition known as the ACG Cup. After competing in the two rounds of the competition, my team and I placed second behind Carnegie Mellon.

“Participating in the ACG Cup has taught me a great many things about the world of merger and acquisition work as well as investment bank advisory practices. Conducting different types of financial analysis on private companies such as DCFs, LBO modeling, Comparable Comps Analysis, and much more has allowed me to explore, learn, and add new tools to my academic and industry toolbox.”
