Shelly Bouchat, of the Mathematical and Computer Sciences Department, presented the talk “Interdisciplinary Applications for the Linear Algebra Classroom” at the Joint Mathematics Meetings in Baltimore, Maryland, on January 16, 2019.

The Joint Mathematics Meetings are one of the largest meetings of mathematicians in the world, and this year there were around 6,000 mathematicians in attendance from around the world.

Bouchat’s talk featured inquiry-based activities that she has developed for use in MATH 171 (Introduction to Linear Algebra) at IUP. Furthermore, the development of these activities is supported by the S-COAM (Scholarships Creating Opportunities in Applied Mathematics) grant from the NSF (Award #1742304).
