The IUP Wind Ensemble has been selected to present a Small Band Showcase performance at the 2019 College Band Directors National Association National Conference, which will be held at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona.

The concert is scheduled for February 22, 2019, at noon.

In November 2018, Timothy Paul, director of Bands and conductor of the Wind Ensemble, submitted live unedited recordings from the IUP Wind Ensemble’s performances at the CBDNA Eastern Division Conference at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut (March 9, 2018) and the Spring Concert in Fisher Auditorium (April 29, 2018) for consideration of an invitation to perform at the 2019 CBDNA National Conference. Via a blind peer review process, the IUP Wind Ensemble was one of only 14 groups invited to perform in this venue at this prestigious national conference.

Research indicates that this Small Band Showcase performance is the first time an IUP ensemble will present at a national CBDNA conference. Professor Richard Clary, senior band conductor at Florida State University and president of CBDNA, wrote, “The three-member jury of distinguished peers were genuinely impressed with the overall depth and quality of your submission. I highly commend you on what is clearly the superior work you are doing, and I wish you all the best as you continue to provide distinguished and dedicated service to both your students and your institution in the future.”

CBDNA is representative of all collegiate bands in the United States and has a membership of more than 1,300 members. This coveted invitation is another accolade for our Music Department faculty and students for their continued dedication to pursuing the highest level of musical performance.
