The IUP Community Music School has recently worked with University Advancement and the Development Office to provide a quick and easy method for anyone to provide financial support to the IUPCMS and its music education efforts in the region.
“What many in the community don’t know is that the current registration fee is simply a very small offset to the operating costs,” said director Jeff Wacker, “and without the current support of IUP Dining, S&T Bank, and two very generous individuals in the community, Anne Wilmoth and Kay Smith, the doors would not stay open.”
Wacker went on to say, “the IUPCMS goal—which is fully supported by Interim Dean for the College of Fine Arts, David Ferguson—is three-fold. One, to decrease the registration fee; two, to increase our current ensemble scholarships and begin offering scholarships for private lessons; and three, to assist with the operating costs.”
While a crowd-funding campaign was looked at, and may still be a possibility for the future, through the support and work of Ferguson, it was decided there needed to be something in place quickly that would always be available; but, as importantly, would be available for anyone to provide any level of support they wished.
This has resulted in a unique link on IUP’s annual giving website. It is always in existence, and gives anyone the opportunity to support the IUPCMS through either a one-time gift, or in an ongoing fashion with regular gifts.
Anyone who would like to give can simply type iup.edu/givetocms into their browser to go directly to the specific IUPCMS giving page. As you would expect, all gifts are completely tax-deductible.
