Mark McGowan and Timothy Runge presented a workshop titled “School Violence: Assessment and Management in a Multi-Tiered System of Support Framework” at the annual Association of School Psychologists of Pennsylvania conference in State College, Pennsylvania, October 24–25, 2018.

This presentation blended the work of McGowan related to violence risk assessment and intervention with Runge’s advocacy for multi-tiered systems of assessment and intervention.

This presentation built upon current understandings of violence, delinquency, and aggression in youth to provided audience members with the necessary foundation for developing competencies for effecting change in schools. Participants were offered the opportunity to integrate and apply understandings within case studies and vignettes. The use of a formalized assessment process was presented in terms of the opportunities to identify specific areas of need that may be used to guide school-based intervention efforts.
