Researchers' Reception, October 18

Posted on 10/1/2018 9:32:00 AM

The date and location for the sixth annual Researchers’ Reception has been finalized for Thursday, October 18, 2018, in the Ballroom at the Hilton Garden Inn from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

This means the RI Crimson Cup is again up for grabs (ownership of the Cup for the year, bragging rights, and up to $2,000 in research support funds)—bragging rights with the presentation at Council of Deans being the primary incentive! Shall we guess to whom the Cup will go this year? Previous winners include the College of Fine Arts, College of Education and Communications, and last year’s winner, the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. Will someone repeat? Will Fine Arts three-peat? Will we get to add a new name to the Cup?

As in previous years, there are two ways to leave as a winner.

First Place ($2,000, the Cup, Bragging rights)

We are going to retain the same parameters as last year, so the factors that will determine the winner of this year's Crimson Cup are as follows:

  1. Percent of increase in the number of proposals submitted from FY16–17 to FY17–18 (worth 25 percent)
  2. Percent of increase in the number of awards received from FY16–17 to FY17–18 (worth 25 percent)
  3. Percent of attendance at the Researchers’ Reception (worth 50 percent)

Second Place ($1,000)

The college with the highest number of attendees (no percentage, just straight attendance).

As always, we will obtain a list of faculty/staff by college from IUP’s Office of Human Resources to get a base from which to determine the winners. Please note that only employees of your college will count toward as attendees. Without exception, the following will be excluded:

  1. Students (including student workers)
  2. Family members
  3. Friends, friends-of-friends, acquaintances
  4. Strangers you find on the street
  5. Anyone bribed, coerced, or otherwise convinced to sign in under your college
  6. Persons must be physically present. No Skype, GoToMeeting, Face Time, or other electronic media presence

All funds will be placed into revolving accounts in the dean’s name at the Research Institute.

Please help make our sixth annual Researchers’ Reception even more successful than previous years by encouraging your faculty and staff to attend. As always, there will be food and beverages provided by the RI. We have ordered postcard-size invitations that will be distributed across campus over the next two weeks to help promote the event, but if there is anything the RI team can do to help encourage attendance, please let us know.

Thank you, and we look forward to another record-breaking reception!
