Recently, Erick Lauber of the Journalism and Public
Relations Department was part of a team presenting to Governor Tom Wolf and Secretary
of the Drug and Alcohol Program Jennifer Smith on Armstrong and Indiana
counties’ response to the opioid crisis.
Governor Wolf and Secretary Smith toured
Armstrong County Hospital August 22, 2018, to view their new detox facility and to
learn about the ARMOT program, a program implemented in both counties.
Lauber
presented on two recent grant-funded projects that the MARTI-CBH Institute has
implemented, including a multi-county prevention and public awareness campaign,
and an intensive, qualitative research project.
Assisting Lauber on
the research project are Victor Garcia (Anthropology), Alex Heckert, (Sociology),
Melissa Swauger (Sociology), and Christian Vacarro (Sociology). Graduate students Kylie Smith,
Lisa McCann, and Ashley Niccolai (Sociology) and undergraduate students Seth
Woolcock and Kathleen Mest (Journalism and Public Relations) are also
participating.
More information about the projects can be found on the
MARTI-CBH website.
