Indiana University of Pennsylvania and the Indiana community will welcome hundreds of families for the 2018 Family Weekend celebration on September 21, 22, and 23.

“IUP is a home away from home for our students and for their families,” Michele Norwood, assistant vice provost for undergraduate student success, said. “We want our families to know they are welcome on campus and in our community. IUP and the Indiana community offers hundreds of athletic, cultural, and entertainment events throughout the year, and families are always welcome here.”

“Family Weekend includes events designed to appeal to all ages, along with programs for families to learn more about IUP and its people. For example, each college of the university will offer a special welcome and information session for families,” Norwood said.

The Legacy Breakfast is a new event in the IUP Family Weekend tradition. Sponsored by the IUP Office of Alumni and Friends, it recognizes those families who have parents or grandparents who are IUP graduates and who have a son/daughter or grandson/granddaughter currently attending IUP. It will be held September 22 from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. in the Sutton Hall Blue Room. It is free to all members of these legacy families.

“We are very excited and proud to celebrate our legacy families; it speaks volumes about a parent’s pride and regard for their alma mater when they choose IUP for their student,” Mary Morgan, director of Alumni and Friends, said. About 500 of IUP’s current students have a parent or grandparent who are IUP graduates.

Families are asked to pre-register for Family Weekend on the IUP Family Weekend website. The registration form also includes a parking pass for the weekend. There is no cost to register.

There are a number of community events planned for September 21 and 22, ranging from a history tour to a fall festival to the screening of a movie starring Indiana’s “hometown son,” Jimmy Stewart, at the Jimmy Stewart Museum in downtown Indiana.

Parking on campus, except for reserved spots and handicapped parking, is free and open after 5:00 p.m. and on weekends. Reserved spots in the Parking Garage, located off Oakland Avenue, are open to visitors after 5:00 p.m. and on weekends.

Registration and check-in for families is from 8:00 a.m. to noon at the Performing Arts Center Fisher Auditorium.
