Junior music education and performance major Logan Carnes was selected as a semifinalist for the 2018 Leonard Falcone International Euphonium and Tuba Festival, to be held in Michigan in August 2018.
Logan was selected through a blind judging process by submitting a recording of Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Concerto for Tuba. He was selected as one of 10 semifinalists in the Artist Tuba division of the festival. Other semifinalists are from the
University of Michigan, University of Miami, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Yale University, University of Arizona, University of North Texas, and University of Georgia.
The Leonard Falcone International and Tuba Festival is the premier solo competition for euphonium and tuba. Both instruments have Artist and Student divisions at the festival. The Artist Division is comprised of musicians of any age who do not hold a
professional position as a performing musician.
This year’s festival will be held August 10–13 at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. The competition consists of an unaccompanied and accompanied semifinal round. Following these performances, three finalists will be named and will perform John Williams’ Concerto for Tuba to determine a winner.
Earlier this year, Logan was a national finalist at the Music Teachers National Association Young Artist Competition after winning the Pennsylvania State and Eastern Division solo competitions.
